Onyeme Attends The 150th Meeting Of The Joint Tax Board.

The Acting Chairman of the Joint Tax Board and Chairman, Delta State Internal Revenue Service Sir Monday Onyeme has called on Nigerians at all levels to embrace taxation wholeheartedly to Increase the nation’s revenue base.

Onyeme disclosed this at the 150th meeting of the Joint Tax Board (JTB), which was held at Transcorp Hilton, Abuja on Thursday 23rd June, 2022. With a theme: Effective Tax Compliance for political office holders, a Panacea for National Development.

He revealed that the Joint Tax Board is working with the Code of Conduct Bureau, political parties and other stakeholders to ensure total tax compliance by political office holders adding that the decisions has become Important due to tax evasion by some political office holders.

According to him, some Political office holders with various streams of Income only pay taxes in the office they occupy, whereas some of them have businesses, companies before occupying political offices which do not reflect, we must take appropriate actions to ensure that Tax Clearance Certificates being presented by political office holders must be in accordance with the assets they declare to the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB).

He further noted that while we are calling on the politicians for effective tax compliance, we must also look at ourselves because some of us who are doing businesses no matter how small, we must all be faithful in paying our taxes accurately adding that the call for effective tax compliance is for all Nigerians with means of income.

“We are working in collaboration with agencies that accumulate data to ensure that all tax agencies make use of this data for effective service delivery. Also, strategies are in top gear to make it almost impossible for road taxes to evade taxation” Onyeme added.
